A BLUE PIG FROM MEXICO
I bought a wooden pig from a market place in Mexico
I bought a wooden pig and he’s painted sky and blue
I carry him on my shoulder though his weight is heavy
I carry him though he’s heavy back home to you
I carry on my shoulder a sky of Mexico
I carry on my lips a song of blue
But my heart, ah love, my heart I leave in Mexico
I bring only the sky of Mexico to you
I bought a wooden pig and his face is fat and happy
He’s strong in his heart and his love is fierce and true
His belly is fat and round like the bright sun of Mexico
I carry him though he‘s heavy back home to you
I carry on my shoulder a sky of Mexico
I carry on my lips a song of blue
But my heart, ah love, my heart I leave in Mexico
I bring only the sky of Mexico to you
I bring only the sky of Mexico to you

ROAD SONG
She was standing at the side of the road
She had long black hair
Asked her where she was going, she said -
‘You can take me … anywhere’
Faded jeans, a small denim waistcoat
Her tattooed arms were bare
Asked her where she come from, she said -
‘I don’t come from … anywhere’
‘I’m just a girl on the road’ she said
‘I don’t own a prayer
‘But I got a song that’ll break your heart
‘If you take me … anywhere’
A pair of boots that had done some walking
Hip flask, an old guitar
Slow green eyes - the colour of danger
I said … ‘Get in the car’
I said … ‘Get in the car’
Was that long straight road going north
The day was hot and clear
Said ‘I’m heading for desert places,’ she said -
‘I’ll go with you … ‘
‘I’m just a girl on the road’ she said
‘I don’t own a prayer
‘But I got a song that’ll break your heart
‘If you take me … anywhere’
A man in love with nowhere and empty
A girl without a prayer
On a long, long west coast road – and she said
‘You can take me … anywhere’
‘Take me … anywhere ‘
‘Take me … … …anywhere’
‘Anywhere’

FATHER
What is this startling sorrow, father
This dark rain?
I feel the wound in my heart
Break open again
I can’t hold back this flood of tears
This river of pain
Can’t seem to find my way
Back home again
What is this wound father
This love without a face
This hidden touch
This dark grace?
Something is crying me father
Can’t see its face
Can’t hold its sorrow
In my embrace
Can’t hold back this flood of tears
This river of pain
Can’t seem to find my way
Back home again
What is this wound father
This love without a face
This hidden touch
This dark grace?
Something is crying me father
Think they’re crying in vain
My footprints lose their way
In the dark night rain
I’m too full of tears father
Too full of pain
Can’t seem to find my way
Back home again
What is this wound father
This love without a face
This hidden touch
This dark grace?

BROKEN GROUND
We spread our love sheet on broken ground
Dark sky unwinding above us
You and me and the night
Naked starlight to cover us
We spread our love sheet on broken ground
Dark earth spinning beneath us
You and me and the night
And the black wind to breathe us
You and me and the night
On broken ground
And our love
A simple white sail
Haunted by wind
You and me and the night
On broken ground
And our love
A simple white sail
Haunted by wind
